Yvonne Brady wins the Drogheda & District Chamber Award... [April 2009]

Women Who Lead By Example Awards 2009 Yvonne Brady wins the Drogheda & District Chamber Award 2009 in the professional category of  the ‘Women who lead by Example’

In recognition of International Women’s Day Drogheda & District Chamber launched The “Women Who Lead By Example” Awards during March 2009. The Drogheda Chamber sought out ladies of Drogheda and the surrounding region that through their work inspire others around them. Over 60 nominations were made and these were shortlisted down to 13 . The campaign ended in an Awards ceremony in The d Hotel on Wednesday 25th March. The guest of honour was the irrepressible Mary Ann O’Brien of Lily O’Brien’s Chocolates. Patricia Rooney, Chamber President, made it clear right from the beginning that the event was a celebration of the contribution of women in this region to all aspects of community and business.  Special guest speaker, Mary Ann O’Brien of Lily O’Briens chocolates spoke honestly and from the heart. She told her own story – about her work, her family, the life and death of her young son Jack who lead to and her husband Jonathon Irwin to found the Jack and Jill Foundation. She praised the positivity of the event, the energy of the women in Drogheda and the spirit that is demonstrated through the business community (both entrepreneurial and voluntary). After Mary Ann departed dinner was served and the ladies waited to see who would be the recipients of the four awards. The categories, Community, Creative Arts, Professional and Entrepreneur were filled with amazing women. The judges had a shockingly difficult time selecting the shortlist, never mind the winners. Below is the shortlist and winners. The Awards ceremony itself allowed President Patricia Rooney to speak for two or three minutes about each of the finalists and really explained why each of these women truly lead by example in their field. Each of the winners were presented with a Mullingar Crystal Trophy, a certificate and a luxury gift basket of beauty products. Runners up each received a certificate and a voucher for dinner for two in one of a selection of local restaurants. At the end of the ceremony Patricia proposed a toast to all of the ladies working so hard around the town and everyone sipped a glass of champagne in their honour.

Yvonne Brady completes BER Certificate training [August 2008]

Adam Kolodziej

Yvonne Brady has just recently successfully completed a training programme that meets the requirement of a Training Specification which was published in October 2006 by Sustainable Energy Ireland. She can now complete a Building Energy Rating Certificate as required by the Building Regulations 2008 Part L.
For anyone selling or leasing a new home from 1st July 2008 a BER certificate will be compulsory. If you are buying or renting a new house or apartment now, you may already be entitled to a BER - so do ask the seller/landlord or their agent for it.

A Building Energy Rating (BER) and advisory report is to be supplied by the owner to a prospective buyer or tenant when constructed, sold or rented. The BER is intended to give prospective buyers and tenants details about the energy performance of buildings.
The BER also gives builders/developers and vendors/landlords an incentive to upgrade the energy performance of the building by giving visible credit to superior standards. The following is a list of further important dates for the implementation of the BER:
1st July 2008 - BER of new non-domestic buildings for which planning permission is applied on/after that date.
1st January 2009 - BER of existing buildings, when offered for sale or rent.

Traditional BER exemptions do apply to the new non-domestic buildings and the new buildings. Contact Yvonne for further information regarding these dates.
